Giving the wedding guests something to do can help make the event even more special to friends and close family.

As people come from all over the country—or even from abroad—to attend the wedding, it’s a good idea to find other things for them to do. Since bridal parties and wedding guests often have diverse interests, provide a variety of activities for both active people and those who have a more difficult time getting around.

Scavenger Hunt

The week before the wedding, the bride, groom and other members of the bridal party can plant clues and bonus prizes around a specific geographical area. Each guest should start out with a map of the area and a list of hints to get them started. By the time they finish the scavenger hunt, they’ll know more about the area, and they’ll have enjoyed the game leading up to the big day.

Sports Weekend

For the sports minded guests at the wedding, someone from the wedding party can organize a softball or touch football game at a park. A golf outing might be fun if enough people brought their clubs—or the clubs can be rented from a golf pro shop. If the area has a professional sports team that is playing in town, find out if they offer group rates and add a tailgate party for even more fun.

Spa Visit

Work with a local spa or salon for special group rates. Arrange for hair appointments, massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and any other treatments by special request. Both men and women will enjoy being pampered before the big event.

Local Tours

Tap into the local attractions, such as museums, parks, historical sites, zoos, botanical gardens and theaters for the guests. Check into group rates and offer discounts to the guests. If coupons are available, pass them out in envelopes as the guests arrive.

Last Minute Bridal Shower

Invite both men and women to attend a last-minute bridal shower for out of town guests. Give them a choice of registries where they can shop. If possible, offer a shuttle service to the stores as well as to the shower.

Movie and Pizza Night

Try to get a group rate to a local theater featuring a romantic comedy. Stop off for pizza either before or after the show. Encourage guests to carpool so they can get to know each other better. Or better yet, hire a shuttle service so the guests can relax and enjoy the company.

Barbecue or Picnic

Plan a backyard barbecue or picnic at the lake for wedding guests. Feature a variety of outdoor activities for all ages, such as horseshoes, badminton, volleyball, kickball and softball.

Wedding Website

Design a wedding website and list activities in the area. This will build excitement and help keep guests updated.
