Pick a bridal shower theme and follow through with the food, décor, gifts and games.
Wedding shower hosts should consider the wedding couple’s tastes and needs before planning the gift giving party. Whether it’s based on the type of gifts or the bride and groom’s personalities, a common theme that follows the event from start to finish can be fun and entertaining
Spa Bridal Shower
Décor: Tie clusters of white balloons placed throughout the room to look like bubbles.
Entertainment: Have makeovers for the guests, with stations throughout the room. They’ll enjoy facials, manicures and pedicures. Let them know in advance, in case they need to refresh their makeup after an invigorating facial.
Food: Fresh vegetable trays, fresh fruit, finger sandwiches, an assortment of hot and cold teas, and miniature desserts (petit fours).
Favors: Travel manicure kits or an assortment of nail polishes in small tulle bags tied with ribbon.
Western Theme Shower—Couples Wedding Shower
Décor: Decorate with picture of the wide open western range, cowboy hats and lassos.
Entertainment: Play a simulated Newlywed Game and have a lasso contest (outside wit a rope and a pole).
Gifts: Gifts can be anything from barbecue equipment to fireplace equipment and warm throws for snuggling up in front of the fire.
Food: An old fashioned barbecue is perfect for a couples shower with a Western theme. Serve Rice Krispie treats for dessert.
Favors: Take digital pictures of each guest wearing a cowboy hat. Print out the pictures and put them in small frames.
Stock the Pantry Shower
Décor: Tape pictures of a variety of foods to poster board that is positioned around the room. Tie clusters of balloons to the corners to make the room more festive.
Entertainment: Have a taste and smell test competition. Pass around small bowls of aromatic herbs and have guests jot down what they think they are. Then blindfold them and have them guess flavors of syrups, jellybeans or other foods that have similar consistencies.
Gifts: Each guest should bring something to stock the bride and groom’s new kitchen.
Food: Have a potluck with guests bringing their best dishes. Have them bring enough recipe cards for everyone to bring home.
Favors: Give each guest a recipe card holder for the new recipes from the other guests.
Stock the Bar Shower—Couples
Décor: Decorate with low lighting, candles and pictures of the bride and groom together.
Entertainment: Play the bride and groom's favorite music. Have each guest stand up and tell their favorite story about the bride and groom.
Gifts: Encourage guests to bring something to help stock the bride and groom's bar. This can include bottles of their favorite beverages, wine glasses, highball glasses and martini shakers.
Food: An assortment of drinks and appetizers.
Favors: A highball glass filled with wrapped candies or wine glass charms
Romance Shower
Décor: Decorate with everything romantic and in pairs. Use hearts, bows and arrows and candles.
Entertainment: Have guests make lists of all the romantic pairings they can think of. The one with the longest legitimate list wins.
Gifts: Ask each guest to bring romantic paired gifts for the bride and groom. Some examples are a pair of champagne glasses and a chilling bucket or a pair of satin pillowcases.
Food: Stay with the theme of pairs. Have wine and cheese, chips and dip, and crackers and spread.
Favors: Send each of the guests home with a pair of heart shaped cookie cutters tied together with a ribbon.
